Yesterday I visited Walsall Academy to talk with their 6th formers about all things entrepreneurial, from mindsets. Their energy, curiosity and big questions reminded me that the spark of entrepreneurship can start anywhere.

In 2017, I met Dave Sayers through the Startup Gippsland program in Australia. Back then, he was designing and manufacturing accessibility products in an old cow milking shed on his parents’ farm. Fast forward to today, and Dave’s business, Avail Design is licensed with national suppliers across Australia and New Zealand. We recently caught up in the UK. From farm shed to national brand, it’s a powerful reminder that every big venture starts with a small vision.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of joining Andy Price and Richard Brooks on The Business Hour with Burton Radio and it was one of those rare chances to pause, look back, and reflect on how far the journey has come.

The Solihull Business Awards 2025 was an unforgettable evening celebrating the very best of our local business community. As a judge, I had the chance to see the process come to life and share the experience with my wife, Rachel. From inspiring conversations with leaders like PJ Ellis, Scarlett Allen-Horton, and Gabriel Imevbore to celebrating the finalists, it was a night full of vision, resilience and community spirit.

In business, we often talk about sales, strategy, and systems. But one of the most powerful growth tools is something much simpler: listening to your customers.
